交替翻譯，尤其是同聲傳譯中，簡化翻譯的(de)技巧十分重要。這種簡化是指口譯中，當原語語言結構成分重疊、語意雷同重複，辭藻華麗、講話人語速“排山倒海”情況下，譯員以“四兩撥千斤”、“短(duǎn)、平、快”的(de)技巧，一(yī)語中的(de)地(dì)譯出原語的(de)核心語意，從而達到“柳暗花明又一(yī)村”的(de)效果。
　　口譯中如(rú)何做(zuò)到簡化呢(ne)？
　　首先，要很好地(dì)提煉語意；其次，要熟知中文中有(yǒu)大量的(de)“外圍詞”（或稱為(wèi)“宏觀概括詞”）。這些概括詞，其實不承載實際語意，但卻着實起到了語言上的(de)烘托作用。
　　例1：40年(nián)跌宕起伏， 40年(nián)衆志成城，40年(nián)春風化雨，40年(nián)砥砺奮進。
　　很明顯，“跌宕起伏，衆志成城，春風化雨，砥砺奮進”這四個中國(guó)語言典型的(de)四字格詞，辭藻華美、寓意深刻，形成強烈的(de)排比。同傳中如(rú)果把它們逐字逐句翻譯出來，增加口譯難度、時間緊迫不說，外國(guó)聽衆還會不理(lǐ)解其中的(de)含義。
　　根據背景知識和(hé)上下文，這40年(nián)無疑是中國(guó)改革開放的(de)40年(nián)。這句話要傳遞的(de)核心語意就是經過“中國(guó)40的(de)改革開放來，經過不懈努力，我們已經取得了巨大成就”。
　　口譯為(wèi)：In the 40 year's reform and opening up, we forged ahead and scored great achievements.
　　例2：所有(yǒu)這一(yī)切都源于改革開放的(de)偉大力量和(hé)中華民族自(zì)強不息的(de)偉大精神。
　　此句中，“偉大力量”“偉大精神”都是概括詞，如(rú)何現場一(yī)定翻譯出來，不但傳遞實際交流的(de)內(nèi)容，往往還會給外國(guó)聽衆帶來“一(yī)頭霧水”的(de)感覺。因此，可(kě)以簡化不譯。而“改革開放”“自(zì)強不息”才具體信息，必須準确譯出。謹記：口譯時隻需要譯出具體信息，這樣才能在極短(duǎn)的(de)時間內(nèi)傳遞信息，達到交流的(de)目的(de)，又使語言更有(yǒu)張力，避免冗長(cháng)。
　　口譯為(wèi)：We owe all these achievements to the reform and opening up and to the resilience of the Chinese nation.
　　例3：改革開放40年(nián)來，在中國(guó)共産黨領導下，中國(guó)人民憑着一(yī)股逢山開路、遇水架橋的(de)闖勁，憑着一(yī)股滴水穿石的(de)韌勁，成功走出一(yī)條中國(guó)特色社會主義道(dào)路。我們遇到過困難，我們遇到過挑戰，但我們不懈奮鬥、與時俱進，用勤勞、勇敢、智慧書寫着當代中國(guó)發展進步的(de)故事。
　　“一(yī)股逢山開路、遇水架橋的(de)闖勁，憑着一(yī)股滴水穿石的(de)韌勁”這一(yī)句中，“逢山開”、“遇水搭橋”、“滴水穿石”這些都是非常生動的(de)擴展表達：而“闖勁”、“韌勁”兩個詞語意雷同。所以，口譯時，翻譯出其确切的(de)語意就可(kě)，即：forge ahead，fearless 及determine。
